my new hobby - stocks

So I've picked up a new hobby for the new year.. STOCKS! I was getting tired and bored of my 'high-interest' savings account and mutual funds, so decided to switch over a very modest amount to eTrade and try my luck there.

It's been only a few weeks, and it's been awesome!

My Picks:

Yahoo (YHOO) - my biggest win. yay!

LoopNet (LOOP) - All the way baby!

Insite Vision (ISV) - I just got in on this one... after reading up about it, and I think it has a lot of potential to blow up this year. If it doesn't, i wont be losing much sicne the stock is only $1.49 =)

Delta (DALRQ) - Get it while it's cheap and bankrupt, since they will get bought out soon.

Next on my list:

Red Robin (RRGB) - Their stock is still extremely low from expanding too fast - which is great, because this stock was previously in the 50 range, and will definitely go back up. BTW, they make the best gourmet burgers ever!

Blockbuster (BBI) - WILL BEAT OUT NETFLIX... with their new and super convenient ALL ACCESS plan.

Got any promising stocks for me to check out?

The Good Shephard

I finally watched The Good Shephard last Friday. It's weird nowadays, since I used to watch most movies before they even came out in theaters... and now, I rarely find time to watch movies.

The Good Shephard was ok... I wasn't super impressed. Angelina Jolie wasn't a good fit for the role she played ... I just didn't feel convinced... just felt I was just watching Angelina Jolie "act"... know what i mean?

I think Matt Damon did a decent job in his role, but the movie overall was just not incredibly enjoyable.

You watch this guy(Damon) get pressured into doing all these things that he doesn't necessarily want to do -- but he does it because, at the time, he thinks it's the right thing to do... You end up feeling terribly sorry for this guy -- for his lost soul -- for his lack of direction and the waste of all that potential. =p

I walked out feeling pretty 'bleh', so maybe it served it's purpose well... kinda like how you feel after watching The Talented Mr. Ripley

Anyhow, I wouldn't recommend the movie as a must-see, but it wasn't horrible.

PASTA P's GEMELLI IS BACK!!

I'm sooo excited! I opened my email box today and got an email from Pasta Pomodoro annoucing that GEMELLI is back!!!

Now, Pasta P used to be one of my most FAVORITE restaurants because their gemelli was soooo good! Their Gemelli is corkscrew pasta, smoked chicken, sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, roasted garlic, cream sauce.

So one day, they just took it off their menu! I was sooooo sad! And then pasta p was never the same. Nothing else on that menu tastes as good as the Gemelli. Why would they go and take the best thing on their menu off?! WHY!!!

Don't you hate when there's something you REALLY like and it gets taken away!! Honestly, really good food brings a feeling of joy/satisfaction that can't be replicated. Particular plates bring particular feelings of satisfaction. hahaa. I'm serious... and the loss of Gemelli really left an empty feeling... this pleasure that could no longer be attained. I used to go regularly to Pasta Pomodoro, and I never went back... its been at least 2 years now.

I was so upest, I even wrote an email to complain about it. hehehe... but NOW IT's BACK!

Even though I'm on a diet right now, I'm going to make an exception sometimes this week (maybe even this weekend) and go indulge on this 'old love' =)

Met a guy in Canada who is a VC for BubbleShare. I'm going to start making albums for my new site using this product instead of flickr or shutterfly. I think their features are pretty cool. THey also generate code for you to have a'bubble slider' to post on your blog. Neat eh?

Here's an album I created when i was in Toronto:

Swamped..

Yep. You guessed it...I have been swamped.

With work.. with my own work, with other people's work... with end of the year quotas, redesigns, random projects, ... putting out fires.. etc etc...i feel like my head is about to explode. And then there's yoga, poker parties, christmas parties, writing cards, wrapping presents.. shopping shopping shopping..

No time to blog I guess. I have lotsa fun pix, so as soon as I find some time to come up for air, I will definitely do a lil update to appease my buddies who have complained to me about the lack of bloggin... hehe

yes i will post pix soon. I am also working on my redesign again. I started one over the summer, and decided to scrap it. SO im working on a better one.

What else is new? TONS.. but I'm not gonna share right now. =x hehehe.

CAFR.EBAY.CA LAUNCHED!!!!

Sorry for the MAJOR hiatus, but I've been sooo incredibly busy. BIG NEWS!

Here are a few articles from the local news papers.

Some comments from members of Powerseller Preview (Translated by the ebay team in Canada):

Comment from Blumingdales (744)
This is wonderful; I think I am going to fall down my chair!
Thank you eBay, finally!!! I am so happy for all the francophone users out there and I think I will cry! A few typos, but everything is perfect! I am so thrilled!

Comment from Funky Watch (2142)This is super cool! (not use to writing in French on the Boards) There must have been a Quebecker who yelled loud and clear to get this done. Let's hope they will have a big campaign to support the site. I would suggest we change the term Buy it now... to Immediate purchase. What do you think? I wonder where all the eBay employees who are developing and maintaining the site are. Ciao, Eric

All I Need to Know about Life I Learned from My Dog

-If you stare at someone long enough, eventually you'll get what you want.

-If at first you don't succeed... beg, whimper, give the puppy dog eyes.

-Don't go out without I.D.

-Be direct with people; let them know exactly how you feel by peeing on their shoes.

-Be aware of when to hold your tongue, and when to use it.

-Leave room in your schedule for a good nap.

-Always give people a friendly greeting.

-When you do something wrong, always take responsibility for it (as soon as you're dragged out from under the bed).

-If it's not wet and sloppy, it's not a real kiss.

Home sweeeet home

Yes, it is GREAT to be back. I've been so busy, I've had absolutely no time to blog. What can I say - life is great. Of course there are the ups and downs... but that's what makes the ups SO MUCH better. =)

I had a BBQ last Saturday, and it was so awesome to see so many of my buddies again. Too bad I passed out at 7:30pm! yep. Over-did the alcohol thing by taking 20 shots of vodka within the first 3 hours. =p sigh. I was just trying to be a good host and drink with every group of friends that came in. You know.. I always feel it's my job to peer pressure everyone into getting buzzed... Next thing u know.... I woke up at 4am.... not knowing where the heck i was.

ANyway, luckily, i was not the only retard - my bro passed out at 8:30pm. and the word on the street is - i went out a lot more gracefully than he did. MUHAHAHAHA. booya!

So I woke up at 4am, and my brother and i both were like "WHAT HAPPENED?! THE PARTY's OVER?! NOOOOooOOO!!!! DO YOU REMEMBER NIGHT TIME? I DON't!" hahaha we lamented over it, and then decided that we must have a DO-OVER.

... leave it to the CHANGS to pass out at their own party. hehehhee. At least everyone had a blast... and a BIG GIANT HUG AND THANK YOU TO ALL MY LOVELY FRIENDS who kept our home so impeccably clean. Man, I have the best gosh darn friends in the world =) Yep I'm lucky to know all of you.

Of course -- Pictures soon to follow. =)

Again, it's so00oooo GOOD TO BE HOME. Home, sweet home.

The Heart of the Matter

Download the version by India Arie -- AMAZING.

I've been trying to live without you now
But I miss you, baby
The more I know, the less I understand
And all the things I thought I figured out, I have to learn again
I've been tryin' to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my heart is so shattered
But I think it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore

All the people in your life who've come and gone
They let you down, you know they hurt your pride
Better put it all behind you; cause life goes on
You keep carrin' that anger, it'll eat you up inside

I wanna be happily everafter
And my heart is so shattered
But I know it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore

Dear eBay.ca Family:

I’ve had an absolutely amazing time living and working here in Toronto at eBay.ca for the last three and a half months. I am so grateful that my time here has been just long enough to truly experience the love of the eBay.ca family, to taste the great diverse food selection that Toronto restaurants have to offer, to go to all the fun summer events, to party at a bunch of clubs downtown -- but just short enough to avoid the FREEZING wintertime that I keep hearing horror stories about.

You’ve all done such a remarkable job making me feel right at home here, and I will always hold all of those caring gestures dear to my heart.

So, it’s confirmed – the rumors are true:

- Canadians are more welcoming, friendly, down-to-earth, chill, and don’t stress out as much.

- In my opinion, the Toronto party scene definitely rivals Vegas.

- Canadians sound words out differently like: ‘aboot’ and ‘surry,’… and my all time favorite is: Ya’ll love saying ‘ay?’ at the end of sentences. =)

- The food here is amazing.

- There is a true ‘melting pot’ vibe where everyone really feels like they belong.

- It is way cleaner and safer here, and people make such a better effort to keep it that way.

Yup, Toronto is definitely going down in my books as one of the greatest places I’ve been privileged to spend some good quality time. I will definitely be back to visit – as this place will always feel like somewhat of a home away from home to me!

One very important lesson I’ve learned here is to watch my step when in high heels! Those crazy sidewalk vents are everywhere, and you never know when you’ll get a heel stuck in there and fall face forward on one of those MONSTER garbage/recycling bins! Yes, it was an extremely rough lesson learned – however, somehow I feel I’ve gained so much knowing I can get through something like that. A huge thanks to everyone for showing all the support and care. I am truly grateful.

All I have to say is: I really feel like I am one lucky girl.

THANKS TORONTO! You’ve been more than amazing to me! Be SURE email me or give me a ring to let me know when you are coming to my hood, because I will be so happy to have the chance to extend the same welcome to any of you.

Tomorrow is my last day here, but I hope to see you all again. =)

Sincerely,
Sandy Chang
